DICK WOLFS THE SUPER SELLS TO SABAN FILMS

Saban Films has acquired U.S. distribution rights to The Super, the Stephan Rick-directed genre thriller that stars Top Gun 2‘s Val Kilmer and Chicago P.D.‘s Patrick John Flueger. The film was scripted by Black Swan’s John J. McLaughlin based on an idea by Law & Order creator Dick Wolf, who produced through his company Wolf Entertainment alongside Tom Thayer, Patrick Rizzotti and Brett Forbes.

Val Kilmer Solves a Murder as ‘The Super’ [Cannes] Voltage Pictures is bringing a new thriller to Cannes from Dick Wolf (“Law & Order”). Bloody Disgusting has the first images from The Super, which stars Val Kilmer as the title character, with Patrick John Flueger and Louisa Krause.

MALICIOUS SELLS TO VERTICAL

Berlin: Vertical Entertainment Picks Up Horror Movie 'Malicious' (Exclusive) Vertical Entertainment, which released Molly Shannon’s cancer comedy Other People, has picked up the North American rights to Malicious, a horror thriller from writer-director Michael Winnick. AMP Films is selling the international rights to the film during the Berlin International Film Festival and market. The movie tells the story of a young newlywed (Novakovic) who suffers a traumatic event, then finds herself haunted — and connected — to a malicious entity with murderous intentions.

BLUE FOX PICKS UP ‘BIG BEAR’ COMEDY

Blue Fox Picks Up ‘Big Bear’ Comedy from first-time feature director Joey Kern, with a planned day-and-date release September 22. It will be the first U.S. theatrical release for Blue Fox’s recently launched distribution banner. Big Bear was written by Kern, who also stars with Pablo Schreiber (American Gods), Adam Brody (The O.C.), Tyler Labine (Deadbeat), Zachary Knighton (Happy Endings) and Toby Huss (Halt and Catch Fire).

Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment is partnering with Tom Thayer and Fortress Features’ Patrick Rizzotti and Brett Forbes to produce The Super, with production just getting underway in New York. Written by Black Swan scribe John J. McLaughlin and directed by The Good Neighbor‘s Stephan Rick in his U.S. debut, the film stars Chicago PD’s Patrick Flueger and Val Kilmer, with Mattea Marie Conforti, Taylor Richardson, Paul Ben-Victor, Yul Vazquez, Louisa Krause and Okierete Onaodowan co-starring.

Bloody Disgusting received first word that Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton have quietly completed production on their latest genre offering, a crime thriller that reunited them with The Collector producers Brett Forbes and Patrick Rizotti, and star Josh Stewart.
